A chip stripper bar is an adjustable, serrated steel bar mounted under the belt near the conveyor discharge. Stringy or bushy chips are grabbed by this bar and ripped free of the belt before they are carried back into the conveyor frame.
The chip stripper bar is mounted as shown below so the serrations on the bar are positioned to snag the chips as the belt travels around the sprocket at its lowest point.
Chip stripper bars are typically used in applications with lots of stringy chips from turning, drilling, grooving, etc. This will avoid potential jamming and even premature wear caused by chips being dragged back into the conveyor frame.
