Jeff Bonner’s Micro Swiss Corporation is a self-described “very small Swiss CNC machine shop” located in Naples Florida. The company specializes in making high-precision parts for a number of products including medical instruments, implants and other healthcare-related items.
“Much of what we do here is of a proprietary nature” Jeff explains, “so I can’t be specific about the processes or my customer’s products. But I can tell you that we have a job that requires a bar change every thirty minutes and that created a problem. The previous bar feeders weren’t designed for that kind of frequent changeovers. Plus, we’re working with small diameter stock – for this job, 3mm.”
“While looking at bar feeds from several companies, I talked to Brad Hasty from LNS and he recommended the Alpha 212 model. I have three of them now and I can’t say enough good things about them. They sure have made my life a lot easier. They’re very dependable and do exactly what they’re supposed to do. They feed in new bar stock in about 20 seconds instead of the 3 - 4 minutes it used to take. I’m also pleased by the service from LNS. They are very knowledgeable, they showed up when promised and got me up and running quickly.”
“Now that I have these Alphas, I can run unattended and make more parts in less time. I’d say they improve my productivity by at least 20%. And as a graduate Mechanical Engineer, I’m more impressed with the design of this machine than any of the others I looked at. It uses a screw-type loading mechanism to feed the small diameter bar stock so it never jams. I’ve had no problems at all.”
As Jeff’s story illustrates, no shop is too large or too small to improve their productivity with bar feeds and other manufacturing accessories from LNS.
